The corrugated packaging industry has made a serious commitment to sustainability. According to The American Forest & Paper Association, “the recycling rate for old corrugated containers (OCC) in 2019 was 92.0 percent.” While the Green Initiative in our industry has a 100% recyclable goal and manufacturers, like Rusken, are striving to make this happen, corrugated remains the most environmentally responsible choice by a large margin. Corrugated boxes are often produced without the use of dyes and bleaches harmful to our environment and can be reused in various ways during their life cycle.

Additionally, our industry has seen an increase in demand from consumers for reusable, eco-friendly packaging materials. In fact, a recent study from Recycling Magazine and Boston Consulting Group found that 74% of consumers are likely to be influenced by eco-friendly packaging, and even willing to pay more for sustainable packaging options. The corrugated industry has responded, putting greater emphasis on limiting waste in all aspects of its operations, and producing more eco-friendly and recyclable products.

  • Collecting, bailing, and shipping out all corrugated scrap materials and unused boxes in our manufacturing facilities for reuse back into the supply chain
  • Optimal packaging design that limits waste and use of non-recyclable materials
  • Wastewater treatment at several of our manufacturing facilities that removes any contaminants for reuse back into the water cycle
